Welcome to the website of the Werribee Islamic Centre (WIC). WIC is the body representing the Islamic community in the Wyndham are of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria in Australia. Werribee Islamic Centre was established in 2001 to cater for the spiritual, Islamic educational and community needs of the growing Muslim community in Wyndham. Community leaders from over 17 ethnic groups got together and discussed the need for establishing a prayer facility in the area and the difficulties to find a suitable place for teaching Islam for their children. As a result, The Virgin Mary Masjid was built in 2004. WIC prides itself in being the only multi-ethnic Islamic organization in Australia, and an active participant in the community life of the Wyndham area. We conduct, for example, fundraising for Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital. We have also worked together with our local council, state and federal government representatives to build a vibrant community spirit, promoting understanding and interaction. Much has been achieved within the organization’s short history of only a few years and Insha'Allah we have ambitious plans to work hard to build a society that will be the model for Muslims in Australia.
